John Douglas Light's Obituary
John Douglas Light died on February 6, 2017. Born on December 17, 1937 to Ralph and Stelle Light, John was the third of three sons.He is survived by his wife, Beverly Foust Light; his daughter Lezlie Shelton, her husband Scott, and their two daughters, Hannah and Emma; his sons, Douglas and Bradley Light; and his brother Gerry Light.He was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest brother, Gene.John discovered his passion earlier in life as an Educator, dedicating his energies, intelligence, and compassion to the betterment of others’ lives. His commitment to helping others extended far beyond the schools and universities he worked at. As an active member of the community and church, he brought his spirit of learning, sharing, and growing to everything he did.A longtime resident of Indiana, he spent 12 years in Florence, Alabama, before settling in the Memphis area.He will be remembered for his integrity, caring, and humbleness; his endless desire to learn, educate, and create positive experiences; and his capacity for sharing hope.A private ceremony of close family to celebrate his life will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2017.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the Bartlett United Methodist Church or the Collierville United Methodist Church.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
