John Albert Laycook, Jr.'s Obituary
John Albert Laycook, 88, of Memphis, TN stepped into Heaven Saturday, 11/05/2011. Mr. Laycook proudly served in the Army Air Corp in Southeast Asia during World War II. He and his father founded Laycook Products in 1946 in the garage behind the family home. The business relocated to its current address on East Butler in 1950, where it continues to operate today. Mr. Laycook became President at the death of his father, John Laycook, Sr. and maintained a family operation involving both his brother, James Laycook, and son, Michael Laycook. The business was established and run on the motto: “God Owns It, We Run It”. When he wasn’t working, Mr. Laycook enjoyed time with his family, reading his Bible and listening to Gospel music. He fell in love with the Lord as a young man and could be seen every Sunday morning as an active member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Betty Laycook, and his brother Billy Laycook. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marion Laycook, his daughter, Sheila Laycook Carman, and her husband, Richard Carman, his son, Michael Laycook, and his wife, Nancy Laycook, four beloved grandchildren, Lindsey Carman, KayLee Carman, Allie Laycook, and Reed Laycook, his brother, James Laycook, and his wife, Jane Laycook, and nephews, Chris Laycook and Jimmy Laycook. The family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. to 8:00 PM Monday, 11/07/2011, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 11/08/2011, at noon, at Kirby Woods Baptist Church, 6325 Poplar Ave. Interment will follow in Memorial Park. Contributions in his memory can be made to Kirby Woods Baptist Church.
