John C. Johnson's Obituary
John Curtis Johnson, Jr., age 85, passed away on April 10, 2016 in Charlotte North Carolina. He was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, the son of John, Sr. and Theron Williamson Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne Ridge Johnson and two sons, Curtis A. Johnson and seven grandchildren of Charlotte, North Carolina and Gary P. Johnson of Mill Valley, California. After graduation from Memphis University he served three years in the U. S. Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. In 1956 he was employed by the Kraft Foods Company where he worked for 32 years. His last position was Director of Finance and Administration for the Technology Group. He was awarded the Kraft Merit Award for distinguished service during his career at Kraft. After retirement from Kraft in 1989 he partnered with Dr. John Duckworth of Memphis, Tennessee, forming “The Gray Eagles”, a wilderness backpacking company which led over 100 people into the mountains of the western U. S. during the next 10 years. During the last years of his retirement he and his wife, Anne, lived for 20 years in Chicago, Illinois, later relocating to North Carolina to be near his family and seven grandchildren. John and Anne traveled extensively during his retirement years, including many trips to Europe. There will be a celebration of life memorial service At Memorial Park 5668 Popular Ave, Memphis TN 38119 on Friday Oct 7th at 11.30 AM. John was an active member of the Methodist Church all of his life. Any memorials are requested to be sent to the Providence United Methodist Church of Charlotte, North Carolina.
