John W Hill III's Obituary
John W. Hill, III, 78, of Memphis TN, passed away on October 24, 2023. John was born in 1945 to John Hill, Jr. and Francis Roan Hill in Vivian, Louisiana and was raised in New Orleans, LA and Mobile, AL. He graduated from the University of Montevallo in 1966, with a degree in Business. While attending university, he met his wife, Patricia. She remained by his side for 57 years. In 1967, they welcomed their daughter, Andrea. After college, he began a life-long career in food service management, which led to the development of his own company, Culinary Management Solutions.
One of John’s favorites and most cherished roles in life was being Poppy to Michael, Hannah, and Flynn and to his great grandchildren Sam, Brian, Thea, and Ivy. He always provided guidance, entertained them with humor, and prepared a variety of interesting culinary creations for them.
John had numerous interests and recreations. He was an aviator, a member of the Memphis Yacht Club as well as an antique car and motorcycle enthusiast. He loved to travel. One of his favorites destinations was the Gulf Coast.
John was a member of the Park Avenue Church of Christ, where he worshipped for many years. His faith in God never wavered and he was a source of light to his family, friends, and community.
He started a professional relationship with Faulkner University, which led to a life-long commitment to Christian education. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees for many years and was their chairman for a number of those years. For his service he earned an honorary Doctorate of Leaders from the university.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Helen Carlburg. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Flynn Hill, one daughter, Andrea Elizabeth Wilkes (Scott), three grandchildren, Michael Allen Stone (Samantha), Hannah Amelia McMillion (Aaron), Corwin Flynn Wilkes, four great grandchildren, Samuel Flynn McMillion, Brian James Elston, Thea Joy McMillion, Ivy Stella McMillion, one sister, Mikall Ruth Norris (Paul) and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held from 10:00 am. until the service time at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 30, 2023, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private gathering for the family will occur after the ceremony.
