John Vernon Hickmon's Obituary
John Vernon Hickmon, 90, passed away at his home, on February 1, 2010. He owned John Hickmon’s Barber Shop for 39 years before his retirement. He later went to work for Kroger after selling his barber shop. Mr. Hickmon was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, and served Bougainville, Coral Sea, Midway, Guadal Canal, Tulagi, Solomons, Attu, Gilbert Islands, Marshall Islands, Palau, and Saipan. He was also a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and worked in the Food Services Program. In his earlier church years at Malcolm Ave. Baptist Church, he taught Training Union, Director of Youth, SS Director, Deacon, and Usher. He also attended Leawood East Baptist Church. Mr. Hickmon also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Needham Hickmon; three brothers, Marvin, Carl, and Cleve; two sisters, Irene Hickmon and Lois Alexander Goad. Mr. Hickmon is survived by two daughters, Martha (Howard) Taube, and Joan (Frankie) Wommack; three brothers, Bill Hickmon of Searcy, AR, Ray Hickmon of Bradford, AR, and Andy Hickmon of Mount Vernon, AR; two sisters, Gracie Scantlin of Searcy, AR, and Ruth Rhew of Bradford, AR; five grandchildren, Hollie (Jeff) Mitchell, Jodie Taube, Josh (Kerri) Taube, Heather (John) Farrington, and Laura (Jeff) Adamson; and six great-grandchildren, Sydney and Ethan Mitchell, Brooke and Logan Farrington, John Johnson, and Jessica Adamson.
