John H. Harris' Obituary
JOHN H. HARRIS, JR., 74, died February 28, 2013 at Baptist Trinity Hospice House, Collierville, TN. Mr. Harris owned Harris Thoroughbreds LLC in partnership with his son, Jeffery Harris. He was a member of the Churchill Downs Turf Club, a member of the University Club of Memphis, Senior Partner and long-time leader of Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh, PLLC, where he practiced law for over 50 years. He graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and the University of Tennessee Law School, J.D. 1961 where he was Editor in Chief of Law Review (1960-61). He was in Order of the Coif and was a trial lawyer for 20+ years, then practiced mainly as a business, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate lawyer during his remaining years of practice. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Webster Harris; daughter, Julie Harris Knox; son, Jeffery Roland Harris; sister, Mary Jane Randolph, brothers, Eugene and William Harris; and grandchildren, Megan Elise Knox, Catherine Ellie Knox, Sarah Frances Harris, Andrew Roland Harris. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Church Health Center.
