John Boyd Gregory's Obituary
John Boyd Gregory, 85, a servant of Christ, went to his heavenly home on June 5, 2026.
John was born on December 18, 1940 in Houlka, Mississippi to Thomas and Mallie Mae Gregory. He was the president of his 1958 graduating class of Houlka High School, and later went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Mississippi State University. Before becoming a CPA, John served his country in the Army Reserves and later moved to Memphis, Tennessee to establish his career in accounting. John met and married the love of his life, Janet, on May 12, 1973, recently celebrating 53 years of marriage.
In his later years, John was a dedicated member of Getwell Church in Southaven, Mississippi, and enjoyed serving ministries such as Olive Branch Food Pantry and Jacob’s Well. With great intentionality, John loved his family dearly. He was a man dedicated to the ones he cared for, and went to great lengths to ensure that they were valued. He was dependable, kind-hearted, and a direct example of Christ’s love to many. He was easy to love, and his family and loved ones will cherish all of the memories they made with him. A scripture that deeply influenced his life was Psalm 23, which says, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
John is survived by his wife, Janet Gregory; his daughter, Kim Ball and husband Patrick Ball; his grandson, Caden Ball; his sister, Ann Traylor; along with his beloved extended family.
John is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Gregory.
Funeral services will be held at Getwell Church on Friday, June 12, 2026. Visitation will be held at 12 pm, with the service to follow at 1 pm. Getwell Church is located at 7875 Getwell Rd., Southaven, MS 38672.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that the expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Getwell Church, P.O. Box 1109, Southaven, MS 38671.
Memorial Park Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
