John K. Gordon's Obituary
John Kuykendall Gordon, 85, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, December 20 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 16, 1928 to Alexander Wakefield Gordon and Ruth Kuykendall Gordon in Cross County, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Memphis Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After service in the United States Army, he attended the University of Mississippi.After graduation, Mr. Gordon began his business career at Gordon’s Transports, where he served as the Executive Vice President. He was a long time supporter of Ole Miss Athletics and Academic Programs, where he started the John K. and Dean S. Gordon Academic Scholarship Fund and was a charter member of the Ole Miss Loyalty Foundation. He was also a founder member of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation fraternity and a founding member of the 20-30 Club, which was a predecessor of the Phoenix Club. He was a Board Member of the Sheltered Occupational Shop and of the Holy Angels Parent Group. Mr. Gordon was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church.Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife, Dean Selby Gordon, and three children, Ruth Gordon White (Johnny) of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, Maryelinor Gordon Mays of Memphis, and William Colbert Gordon of Shreveport, Louisiana, and two loving stepdaughters, Vivian Dean Cole (Bruce) of Memphis and Shirley Ann Cooper of Panama City, Florida.
