John Henry Gerstenberger's Obituary
John Henry Gerstenberger, age 93, formerly of Memphis, TN (1947-2002), died Monday, February 9, 2009, in Macon, Georgia following a brief illness. John Gerstenberger served on the staff of the Methodist Hospital in the radiological department for 32 years. He was Administrative Director of the department of Radiology and Technical Director of the School of Radiologic Technology from 1955 to 1980. John Gerstenberger was responsible for the training process for hundreds of radiologic technologists. From his first student in 1948 to the final class he trained in 1980, not one of his students failed to pass the National Registry. He was the recipient of a Living Award from the Methodist Health System in 1993; an outstanding service award from the Governor’s Committee of Employment of the Handicapped in Tennessee and received recognition awards from the Lions International and Rotary International. John Gerstenberger also had an endowed scholarship fund for radiology residents established by Winthrop Pharmaceuticals. John Gerstenberger was married to Mary Bess (Beedee) Wilson for 56 years prior to her going home to the Lord in 1996. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nancy Gerstenberger of Macon, GA; son-in-law, Ralph Laukhauff Jr. of Vidalia, LA; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a niece JoAnne Caraway. He was preceded in death by his daughter Karla Marie Laukhauff of Vidalia, LA.The family will receive friends Friday, February 13th from 6:00 p.m. — 8:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home Funeral Home and Cemetery.Pastor David Brighton of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church of Warner Robins, Georgia will officiate.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Building Fund at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 336 Carl Vinson Parkway, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
