John Winn Davis' Obituary
Our beautiful blonde boy, John Winn, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 4th. John Winn was a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, grandchild, and student. He experienced more trials and tribulations in his short 13 years than most people will ever experience in a lifetime, but we take great joy and comfort in knowing he is standing beside his Jesus completely free of the shackles of autism. I know we will see our son again. We will hug his neck like no parent ever has, and we will talk about everything he couldn’t talk to us about for his 13 years on this planet. He was our gift from God, and we are truly broken.
He was mischievous, adored his sisters, loved music, hugs, and his dogs Darcy and Chester. He also loved swimming, the ocean, 4-wheelers, wave runners, boats, snow skiing, bowling, bacon, pizza, berries, skittles, and penguins.
In spite of the daily challenges placed on John Winn by autism and the therapy to overcome those constraints, John Winn displayed a boundless joy and never stopped pursuing the milestones set before him.
We are indebted to the army of teachers, therapists, volunteers at Central Church, Collierville Elementary, Bowie Learning Center, Southern Reins, Second Presbyterian Church, and Mid-South Therapy Group.
He is survived by his parents, Tyler and Laura Davis; sisters, Riley and Katey Davis; grandparents, Sam and Suzie Davis and George and Patricia Higley; aunts and uncles, Garrett and Courtney Davis, Cameron and Natalie Davis, Cate and Spencer Foy, Suzanna and Nathan Barnhart, Dan and Anne Higley, Thomas and Gayle Higley, and Robert Higley; cousins, Sam, Coco and Rett Davis, Elizabeth and Henry Davis, Hud and Miller Foy, Davy and West Barnhart, Grace, Caroline, Parker, and Spencer Higley; and his pal / Godmother, Holly Ferguson who loved him more than any non-biological family member could.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9th in the Sanctuary at Second Presbyterian Church, 4055 Poplar Avenue. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 10th at Second Presbyterian Church with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue. Beyond something tangible, please honor John Winn by diving in to help a mother of a child with autism who is melting down in the Target checkout line and acknowledging rather than ignoring any child who is different.
A fund has been established in John Winn’s honor. All donations will be used to support children with autism by providing financial support for therapy, tuition, and other resources.
