John (Johnny) Cratus Jones' Obituary
John (Johnny) Cratus Jones, Jr. 94, passed away March 23, 2015 at The Gardens of Germantown. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Signal Corps attached to the Army Air Corps. He was a member of The Catholic Church of the Incarnation and was active in The Knights of Columbus Council 8826 and a charter member of the Fourth Degree Holy Cross Assembly Council 3048 and formerly a member of Resurrection Council 10327. He was a former District Commissioner for the Boys Scouts of America Chickasaw Council. Mr. Jones retired in 1985 from Genuine Parts Company (NAPA). He was an avid hobbyist, enjoying stamp and coin collecting, model trains, tropical fish and gardening. His family have fond memories of him running the “Walking Charlie” game at the Memphis Fairgrounds. He was loving and devoted to his family, preceded in death by his parents, John Cratus Jones, Sr. and Amanda Adele Jones, his wife of 55 years, Alice Elizabeth (Schreiner) Jones, and grandson, Brian Patrick Sullivan. Mr. Jones is survived by 5 children, Patricia Ann “Patsy” (Dan) Sullivan, Margaret Elaine “Peggy” (Kin) Dempsey, Robert Alan “Bobby” (Judy) Jones, and James Michael “Jimmy” (Bonnie) Jones and John Donald “Don” (Marion) Jones; 7 grandchildren, Lisa Heather Sullivan and Joseph “Joe” Gregory Sullivan, Buckley Kinard “Kin” (Erin) Dempsey, Jason Matthew “Matt” Dempsey and Anna Ward Dempsey (Tim) O’Hare, Robert Michael Jones and Mary Amanda Jones; 4 great-grandchildren, Conner and Braden O’Hare and Max and Adele Dempsey. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 25, from 5-7 pm with a Rosary to begin at 6:30 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 26, at 12:30 pm at The Catholic Church of the Incarnation with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
