John H. Coughran's Obituary
John Hollis “Jack” Coughran, age 79 of Southaven, MS, formerly of Hernando, MS, entered into Heaven on Sunday, December 17, 2017. He attended Marion Military Institute, the University of Mississippi Southern and later served in the Tennessee Air National Guard. He retired as an Independent Insurance Agent and was owner/agent of Signal Insurance in Hernando, MS, and earned a national award for top Trans American Life Agent. Jack was former owner of the Upstairs Downstairs restaurant in Hernando and loved to cook. He was also one of the original participants in the Memphis in May Barbeque competition. Jack was a Master Mason, Hernando Lodge #0051 and was a member of the Wahabi Shrine of Desoto County. He was a long time member and Chairman for the Board of Trustees at Longstreet United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN. He was an avid horseman. His other hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, football, basketball and he loved to dance. His favorite past time was his annual trip to Hot Springs for the Oaklawn horse races and his beach trip to Gulf Shores. He leaves his wife of 15 years, Norma Spaulding Coughran of Southaven, MS and one daughter Lisa Coughran Shaw (Greg) of Holly Springs, MS and one step-son Kevin Spaulding (Tara) of Memphis, TN. He was loved and adored by his grandchildren Kelsey Shaw Clayton (Davis) of Okolona, MS, and Jacob Shaw of Holly Springs. Step-grandchildren Doug Gipson (Lauren), Nesbit, MS, Madison Spaulding, Bolivar, TN and Kevin Spaulding, Jr. (Sara), Oakland, TN. Visitation will be at 11:00 o’clock on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 and service at 12:00 o’clock at Memorial Park, Memphis, TN. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children and to Longstreet United Methodist Church, Memphis, TN.
