John Hardy Clark's Obituary
John Hardy Clark, of Memphis, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis on December 26, 2009. Mr. Clark was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 6, 1918, and was raised in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Margie Miller Clark, three daughters, Eleanor Clark White (Jon) of Lynchburg, Virginia, Tammy Harris McLaurin (Anse) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Leigh Clark Van Vulpen (Andrew) of Memphis, and son, Melville Francis (Chip) Harris (Lucie), of Memphis. In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren, Emily Clark McLaurin, Mark Hardy Clark, Marion White (Chris), and Lea White. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by sons, Chester Gordon Clark, II, and Mark Ewen Harris, and a daughter, Judith Clark. Mr. Clark was a 1941 graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He was a veteran of World War II, serving on Guadalcanal as a Naval Aviator in the Marine Corps. His business interests brought him to Memphis in 1951, where he started a business designing equipment for the pulp, paper, and wood products industries. Mr. Clark was also a member of Christ Church. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
