John C. Bumpers' Obituary
John Clay Bumpers, 80, passed away May 30, 2011 from a brief illness. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 3 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Bumpers is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat; son, John Clay Bumpers, Jr. of Collierville, TN; daughter, Pam Hale (David) and grandchildren, J.T. and Jordan Hale of Rogers, AR; sisters, Dottie Bumpers Patridge (Jim) of West Memphis, AR and Bette Bumpers Mills of Piggott, AR; and nieces, Bonnie Patridge Buntin (Taylor) of Hernando, MS, Gazie Johnson (Glenn) of Piggott, AR, and Mary Ann Mills of Sherwood, AR; and nephews, Jim Clay Patridge (Ellen) of Fort Smith, AR and David Mills (Connie) of Memphis, TN. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and an avid Razorback Fan. Mr. Bumpers was a Shriner, Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also in the Jaycees. Mr. Bumpers was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and was active in the Men’s Prayer Group, Sunday School, Cornerstones, and Board of Trustees. The family requests memorials be sent to either Shiloh Christian School/ John C. Bumpers, Springdale, AR; Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Memphis, TN; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , Memphis, TN; or the charity of donor’s choice.
