Dr. John Thomas "Brick" Johnson, Jr.'s Obituary
Dr. John Thomas “Brick” Johnson, Jr, 73, died October 17, 2009. Brick attended Texas Tech University where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and the Red Raider football team. Brick received a Master’s Degree in Rehab Counseling and a PhD from the University of Georgia. He was a professor at Memphis State University, a researcher for Baptist Memorial Hospital, and was working for Mental Health Services for the State of Missouri when he retired. Brick was most recently working part-time for Links at Audubon enjoying his favorite sport of golf. While in Missouri Brick and Beverly were active members of Grace Episcopal Church. Since returning to Memphis, they have been attending St. Elisabeth’s Episcopal Church.Brick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly McCormick Johnson, and their four children; Shannon Johnson Turpin and her husband Larry, Jennifer Johnson Lackey and her husband Steve, John Edward “Jed” Johnson and his wife Sheryl, and Thomas Gregory “Greg” Johnson and his wife Collin. He leaves five grandchildren; Connor Lackey, Mattison Johnson, Cole Johnson, Larkin Johnson, and Greta Johnson. He also leaves a sister Virginia L. Stewart of Winchester, Virginia.Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, Tennessee on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 5-7 pm. Funeral Services will also be at Memorial Park on Wednesday at 1:00 pm.
