John O. Bohannon, Sr.'s Obituary
John O. Bohannon Sr., 86, of Memphis, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Mr. Bohannon graduated from Messick High School in 1942 and was Co-Captain of the football team. He was a Marine in World War II and received a Purple Heart. Mr. Bohannon was a lifetime member of Normal Masonic Lodge. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier with over 36 years of service, and was also a deacon in the church for over 60 years. Mr. Bohannon is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Verna Bohannon; two daughters, Melba Jane Worley of Nesbit MS, and Lynn Bohannon of Cordova TN; two sons, J. Oakley Bohannon of Germantown TN, and Morgan Bohannon of Charlotte NC; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The visitation will be held 6p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 18, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 19, also at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home, 6896 Highway 70 Memphis, TN 38133
