Joe Peterson's Obituary
Joe Evans Peterson, 84, passed away December 6, 2014. He was born in Jonesboro, AR and moved as young boy to Little Rock, AR. While in high school, he played football at Little Rock Central High School. He continued his football career at University of Central Arkansas, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Later he attended Memphis State University, where he earned his Master’s Degree plus hours. Joe retired from Memphis City Schools, during his tenure he served as an administrator, educator and athletic coach. He was honorably discharged from the Army and Air National Guard. Joe and Ann have been members of Bellevue Baptist Church for many years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Massey Peterson; children, Joe Fred Peterson (Kim) and Donna Ann Wall (Blane); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jeremy, Joshua, and Matthew; siblings, Hilliard Peterson and Elizabeth Blevins and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, John H. Peterson. Joe liked to be active, jogging in several races, fishing, camping and boating. Joe loved his family and was an avid football fan GO HOGS! The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 8 and the funeral service 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 9 all at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you choose an Angel from the Salvation Army Angel Tree or make a donation to the Salvation Army in Joe’s memory. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
