Joe Holt's Obituary
Joe M. Holt, 76, of Nesbitt, Mississippi, passed away May 24, 2014, at Methodist University Hospital. Joe was born December 31, 1937, to George and Essie Rooker Holt in Memphis, Tennessee. He lived his pre-school years in Harrisburg, Arkansas, moving to Memphis at an early age and attended A. B. Hill Elementary School and graduated from Southside High School, proudly being a member of the class of 1955 “Scrappers”. After high school Joe served in the Navy Reserves. He worked for the Memphis Police Department and retired as an Inspector after 33 ½ years of service. Joe was in charge of security for the police department during the initial Wonders Exhibits of Ramesses the Great in 1987 and Catherine the Great in 1991. He was also head of Metro Narcotics for several years. He was preceded in death by his father, George Holt and is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia Houston Holt; his son and daughter, Michael Holt and Dee Dee Holt both of Nesbitt; his mother, Essie Holt Delisi of Memphis; sister, Ghedda Holt Cianciola of Collierville along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 26, from 5-8 pm with services on Tuesday, May 27, at 2:00 pm all at Memorial Park Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, 901-767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.
