Joanne Bell Tabor's Obituary
Joanne Bell Tabor, 81, of Memphis, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2014. She was born in Memphis on September 20, 1932. Her parents were Ann Austin Bell and Randolph William Bell. Joanne attended Central High School and University of Tennessee. She was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines following college. In death, she joins her husband, the former Dr. James Carter Tabor, who passed away in the summer of 1996. She was a devoted mother and is survived by three daughters—Suzanne Varner (Jim), Ginger Wolfe and Christian Owen (Davis)—and their families. She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Bell Hurt. Joanne always called attention to the positive influence of her grandparents, Birdie Worley and William Henry Bell, and, in turn, she was an involved and dedicated grandmother of five. Joanne was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and an active member and/or leader in numerous social and community organizations, including Memphis Country Club, the Tuesday Study Club, the Chickasaw Gardens Garden Club, Memphi, Les Passees, Maternal Welfare League and the Woman’s Exchange. Following her years as a full-time mother, she enjoyed working at The Gift and Art Shop of Memphis.She also loved to garden, cook, play bridge and travel. She had a true passion for animals, having cared for and rescued many over her lifetime. She fulfilled all activities and tasks with grace and charm. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, genteel lady and loyal friend.Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, February 11 and funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 12 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Second Presbyterian Church http://www.2pc.org, the Memphis Union Mission http://www.memphisunionmission.org, or the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County http://www.memphishumane.org.The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”
