Joan Taylor's Obituary
Joan R. Taylor, age 85 of Hot Springs Village, AR, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 5, 2017. She was born in Memphis on October 11, 1931, to the late James and Ruth Franks. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth P. Taylor, her daughter, Pamela Jo Garza, a sister Dolores Lavern Craig, and a brother James Ralph Franks. Joan is survived by her son, K. Parker Taylor (Fran), son-in-law Roger Garza, 3 grandchildren, Jonathan M. Taylor (Jennifer), James A. Taylor (Amy), Rachel E. Fornaca (Joel), six great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Joan was a graduate of Central High School in Memphis, and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Memphis, class of December, 1970. Attending college as a wife and mother, she had the highest GPA of her graduating class, and taught school for two years. While living in Memphis, Joan and her family were active members of Temple Baptist Church, Cherokee Baptist Church, and Parkway Village Baptist Church. Joan and her husband Kenn left Memphis in 1972 and lived in Boston, MA, French Lick, IN, Mountainside, NJ, San Francisco, CA, and Pasadena, CA. After her husband’s death in 1983, she returned to Memphis to help care for her elderly parents. She worked as an administrative assistant for several medical practices in Memphis, the last being Memphis Surgery Center. Joan moved to Hot Springs, AR, in 2013 to be near family. The family would like to thank the staff of West Shores Senior Living, Hot Springs, AR, Mt. Carmel Assisted Living, Hot Springs Village, AR, and the Arkansas Hospice, Hot Springs, AR, for their kindness and loving care. A memorial service to celebrate Joan’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN, to be followed by a reception at the Parkside Event Center at the funeral home.
