Joan Levy's Obituary
Joan L. Levy, 85, passed away May 18, 2012 at her home. She was born September 1, 1926 in Union City, TN. She spent her early years in Paducah, KY. She graduated from Tilghman High School and Paducah Junior College. She came to Memphis in 1956, married Ralph Levy, Jr. in 1958. From 1960 to 1985, she and her husband worked to build Catherine’s Stout Shoppe’s into a substantial retail entity. As an amateur orchid grower, she amassed a collection that grew into a large and greatly respected holding. She won well over 125 American Orchid Society awards and produced over 100 orchid hybrids. She was well know in the orchid world. She leaves her children, Ralph Levy III (Dede Coughlin) and Janet Ann Levy, PhD; grandchildren Emily Levy and Matthew Levy. Graveside services will be held (tentatively) 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 23 at Temple Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County, the Church Health Center, or Mid-South Spay and Neuter Services.
