Joan Deverell Hoyt's Obituary
Mrs. Joan (Deverell) Hoyt age 91 of Brentwood, TN, formerly of Memphis, TN passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Morningpointe Assisted Living in Brentwood, TN. Joan was born on August 24, 1934 in Charleston, TN to the late Marie Williams Deverell and Rufus Kanada Deverell. She was a homemaker for most of her life and a member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church.
Joan loved camping and going to their cabin in Heber Springs, AR on the Little Red River. She was a woman of faith, loved studying the Bible and attended BIble Study Fellowship for many years and she prayed consistently for her family. She was an excellent gardener who could grow anything from vegetables to flowers. She loved collecting recipes and cooking for her family. In later years she and her husband Richard traveled to many countries with a core group of friends. She also enjoyed many craft projects and was a great seamstress.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Hoyt and her sister Betty Thomas.
Survivors include two sons Phil Hoyt (Cheryl) of Brentwood, TN, Paul Hoyt of Bartlett, TN; five grandchildren, Ben Hoyt of Franklin, TN, Will Hoyt of Dickson, TN, Hunter Carter of Dallas, TX, Austin Hoyt of Kansas City, MO, Whitney Johnson of Maryville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Callahan and Trip Johnson of Maryville, TN as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 2, 2026 at 1pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Memphis, TN. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 12pm. Pastor Paul Gardner of Colonial Park United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will follow at the Charleston Cemetery in Stanton, TN.
