Joan Carolyn Hazlerig's Obituary
Joan Carolyn Hazlerig, 79, passed away on October 25, 2021. She was born on April 12th, 1942 in Garland, Tennessee to Garrett and Lula Dobson. Joan graduated from Byars-Hall High School in Covington, Tennessee. Joanie leaves behind her husband, Larry Jack Hazlerig, of Covington. She was a loving and devoted mother to Traci Campbell of Germantown, Tennessee and Cary (Catherine) Hazlerig of Spring Hill, Tennessee. Her most cherished role was “Meme” to Jack Hazlerig, Hudson Hazlerig, Caroline Campbell, and Paul Hazlerig. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother, Jeanne Settles and Jere Dobson. She also loved her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan worked as a secretary for many years. She enjoyed playing tennis, taking an occasional trip to the casinos, and traveling with her husband and their favorite travel companions, the Gandys, Bardens, and Settleses. Her children enjoyed hearing of their latest adventures, especially a good Gandy story. We can smile knowing that Joan has been reunited with her best friend in heaven, Martha Gandy. Joan was an avid dog lover. A few of her beloved pets were Brandy, Muffin, Heidi, Mitzi, Cookie, and Tinkerbell. Joan was known to jokingly warn, “Don’t mess with my kids or my dogs.”
Her nephew, Pastor Greg Hazelrig, will officiate the graveside service at Memorial Park South Woods (5485 Hacks Cross Road).
The family would like to especially thank the caregivers at Magnolia Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation and her cousin, Glenda (Dennis) Beene who lovingly helped Joan with her care. Our Meme will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joan Hazlerig Memorial Fund at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
