Joan Margaret Hays' Obituary
Joan Margaret Hays, 75, passed away June 27, 2009 at Ave Maria Nursing Home.She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Dennis Smith Hays, Jr. whom she met while attending the University of Cincinnati. Joan was a loving mother of four sons; Smith (Julie), Sam (Dawn), Russell of Memphis, and Shannon (Anna) of St. Louis. She also leaves five grandchildren; Anna, Harrison, Drew, William, and Riley. Joan is also preceded in death by her sister; Helen McManus of Cincinnati, OH. She is survived by siblings James Grady (Layla)of Snellville, GA; Ann Kelly (Ed) of Cincinnati, OH; & Carole Grady of Dayton, OH. She also dearly loved her niece, Eileen Sandel of Houston, TX; two brothers-in-law and their wives: Sandy Hays (Sue) and Walker Hays (Helen); as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.Joan was an professional artist and avid tennis player. She volunteered her time to the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf and DeNeuville Heights/Poor Clare Nuns.Visitation is scheduled for 9am Wednesday July 1st followed by 10am Mass both at St. Louis Catholic Church.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Ave Maria Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of the donor’s choice. Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge.
