Joan S. Frye's Obituary
Joan S. Frye, 88, of Cordova, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland L. Frye, Jr., her parents, Luther and Alice South, a brother Gerald South, and a sister, Kay S. Ward.
She is survived by her four children, Roland L. Frye, III. (Angie), Sharon F. Jones, Jeffrey Neil Frye (Susan), and Kimberly Ann McGainey (Michael), seven grandchildren, Robert, Chris, Sarah, Michelle, Lauren, Brittney, and Will, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a brother, Don South and three sisters, June Ponder, Judy Denham and Faye Ellis.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her care givers, Lula Terry and Janet Williams and all the staff at Page Robbins Adult Daycare Center.
Joan was born in Mobile, Alabama on August 31, 1932. She graduated from Tanner Williams High School in Mobile. She married the love of her life, Roland Lee Frye, Jr. in 1949. She went on to attend Southern Mississippi College, majoring in Education. Joan taught school for 12 years. She was the quintessential southern lady. She loved to read, garden, cook, travel, solve crossword puzzles and being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and more. Family was everything to her along with her faith. She attended Ridgeway Baptist Church in Memphis. She will be greatly missed.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 10:00 am at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Page Robbins Adult Daycare Center or American Cancer Society.
