Jo Ann Floyd Fite's Obituary
Jo Ann Floyd Fite, 85, of Germantown, Tenn., went to be with the Lord November 6, 2015. The wife of Charles R. Fite, Jr., she was born in 1930 to John Ellis Floyd and Willie Elena Leffel Floyd. Jo Ann was a dear, Christian lady, loved by many. A native Memphian, she attended Peabody Elementary School, Fairview Jr. High and Central High School. In three years of studies, she graduated from Memphis State College, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and wrote for the Tiger Rag, the school newspaper. Upon graduation, she worked for an ad agency. In 1951, she and Charles (better known as Charlie) were married. In 1953, their first son, David Fite, was born. In 1957, they had another son, Matt Fite. (Jo Ann and Charlie had another son, John Timothy Fite, who died shortly after birth.) Jo Ann then became a stay-at-home Mom. In the early 1960s, Charlie and Jo Ann joined Willow Park Baptist Church, where Jo Ann frequently sang solos, accompanied by her best friend, Jane Seaton. In the late 1960s, Jo Ann began teaching typing at St. Agnes Academy. In 1970, she began teaching English at Evangelical Christian School. In 1976, Jo Ann began her last year of teaching at Central Baptist School for her dear friend, and the school’s principal, Marylyn Beasley. Also in 1976, Charlie and Jo Ann’s first grandchild, Jessica Bryant, was born. In retirement, Jo Ann taught a women’s Bible study, kept the nursery at Central Church, read books, wrote articles about other senior citizens and kept up with old friends. She made a trip to Uruguay, to visit her longtime friend Alondra Algazi. Besides her husband and two sons, David Fite (Peggy) of Tucson, Ariz., and Matt Fite (Shan) of Germantown, Tenn., Jo Ann also leaves six grandchildren – Jessica Bryant, Eric Moss, John Fite, Elizabeth Fite, Joseph Fite and William Fite – and four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Monday, November 9 at Central Church, 2005 E. Winchester Blvd. Collierville, TN.
