Jimmy McDonald's Obituary
James Frank “Jimmy” McDonald, D. Ph., 86, of Memphis, died on December 9, 2014 at Baptist Hospital. He was born on November 30, 1928 in Memphis to Frank and Myra Nolen McDonald. He was predeceased by his sisters, Kathryn M. McNeer and Dorothy M. Boggs. He is survived by his wife, Betty Manker McDonald, of Memphis; son, James Kevin McDonald; daughter in-law, Mary Jane McDonald; and granddaughters, Kaitlin McDonald and Kendall McDonald, of Lakeland. Jimmy attended South Side High School, Memphis State University, and the University of Tennessee, College of Pharmacy from which he graduated in 1949. He then worked as a retail pharmacist. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Korea. He is a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He is also member of the Lions Club, O. K. Houck Masonic Lodge, and has served on many pharmacy-related committees. He was a founding member of the Feurt Fund for the University of Tennessee, College of Pharmacy. He purchased Highland Heights Pharmacy in 1966 and continued to work there until he retired. He was the recipient of many pharmacy-related awards. He was appointed by Tennessee governor Winfield Dunn to a five-year term on the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy. He was also a past president of the Tennessee Pharmaceutical Association and the Memphis and Shelby County Pharmaceutical Society. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 1 p.m., Friday, December 12 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of donor’s choice.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
