Jimmy Harold Chaney's Obituary
Jimmy Harold Chaney of Germantown, Tennessee passed away Christmas morning, December 25, 2011, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Jim died from complications associated with Alzheimer’s. He was seventy-four. He was born in Nettleton, Mississippi on April 7, 1937. He married his high school sweetheart Sylvia Anderson Roberts and they settled in Memphis in 1961. Jim attended the University of Mississippi and received a baccalaureate from MississippiStateUniversity and a master’s degree from VanderbiltUniversity. His career included professional civil and environmental engineering services for both the public and private sectors throughout Tennessee and Mississippi. Jim served his country with distinction and was deployed to Oxford, Mississippi in 1962 to ensure the future of American Constitutional Rights during a pivotal moment in American Civil Rights History. The last four years of his life were spent at home with his primary caregiver, Karen Lynn Chaney, his daughter, children, and Amedisys Hospice staff. He is survived by his son Mark Chaney, daughter Karen Chaney, son Clayton Chaney and wife Teresa, two grandchildren, Andrew Chaney and Elizabeth Chaney, sister-in-law Norma Jones, nephew William Chaney, brother Danny Chaney, nephew Phillip Chaney, niece Amanda Chaney, sister-in-law Sue Roberts Shepherd and husband Clarence Shepherd, nephew Justin Flaherty and wife Jenny, great nephew Cyrus and great niece Abigail, niece Sally Kate Shepherd and special family friends, Carol Ward, Donny West, Pamela Moore, Pauline Mays, Linda DeVoe and Anita Brooks. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 29 from 1:30 p.m. until the service begins at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to The Alzheimer’s Association.
