Jimmie Tibbs' Obituary
Jimmie R. Tibbs 86 passed away at his home after a lengthy illness on Sunday Dec. 16, 2012. He was deeply committed to Christ and was an active member of the Germantown Baptist Church. Jim was a member of the Chickasaw Country Club and an avid golfer. He was retired from the Victor Comptometer Corp where he served in both Chicago and Memphis as a district manager. He later was retired from the Business Equipment Center where he served as their sales manager. Jimmie was a veteran, with service as a Navy medical corpsman assigned to the Marines in the Pacific Theater of WWII. He received two purple hearts as he served during the entire battle of Okinawa as well as other engagements. He also entertained the troops by boxing in Golden Gloves, undefeated, during these years. Although he rarely spoke of his WWII service, he was quick to speak of his deep commitment to his loving wife Margery, or his devotion for his children, who were the center of his life. Jim met Margery while working for Victor in Detroit, where they were married and had a 60 year marriage until her death in 2011. He is survived by 3 daughters Cynthia Childs (David), Loretta Rowan (Steve), Melissa Green (Phillip) and 2 sons Robert Tibbs and Matthew Tibbs. Visitation will be 5-7 Thursday Dec. 20 and funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 21 at the Memorial Park Funeral Home.
