Jim Dazey's Obituary
Jim Dazey of Memphis went to his Heavenly Home on March 30, 2023 at the age of 88.
He was born in Greensboro, Florida to Lessie and George Dykes. He moved to Memphis with his family at the age of 7 and was adopted by his stepfather, John Dazey.
In 1955 he married his Florida sweetheart, Lois, with whom he spent 68 years. He is survived by Lois, their beloved daughter, Briggette (Rick) of Gallatin, TN, and two adorable grandchildren, Hamilton Moore of Springhill, TN and Olivia James Moore New (Jake) of Memphis. He is also survived by many family members in Florida and Georgia.
He is predeceased by his biological father, George Dykes, his adoptive father, John R Dazey, his mother, Lessie Dazey, a favorite Aunt and Uncle, Ades White and George Martin White, formally of Memphis/Graceville, Florida as well as other family members of Florida and Georgia.
Jim enjoyed his family, the Church and work relations during his lifetime. He was a lifelong member of First Assembly of God Church and was active for many years in ministries sponsored by the church. He was proud to be a 70-year member of the Electrician Local Union 474 where he made many lifetime associations. He spent many years as a journeyman electrician and retired from the City of Memphis Fire Department as a Fire Alarm System Electrician. He was also a Licensed Tennessee Residential Home Builder and owned Jim Dazey Homes, along with his wife, Lois. He built many homes in Southwind TPC, including personal and family homes. After retiring to the Florida Panhandle in 1996, he built a family farm home and estate, where the family enjoyed fishing, raising goats, and gathering together. He was blessed to realize his dream of becoming a cattle farmer. He and his wife returned to Memphis in 2005 to be near their daughter and family.
Jim’s passions were his faith in God, his love for family and his church. He enjoyed time showing horses with his daughter, Briggette, in local saddle clubs and SASCA Championship classes, also attending the annual Shelbyville, TN Walking Horse Celebration. His favorite times were spent with family at the beach and yearly trips to Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, MO. He loved to drive and traveled across the country to take in landscapes and favorite American landmarks. He enjoyed spending time with friends at the Germantown Athletic Club and their monthly birthday celebrations.
A private memorial was held on April 1 for family and close friends at First Assembly of God Church on Walnut Grove Road, with burial in Memorial Park Funeral Home and Gardens Mausoleum.
