Jesse James "Jim" Jenkins' Obituary
J.J. “Jim” Jenkins, 88, passed away Saturday, July 12, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born October 7, 1925, in Black Oak, Arkansas to the late Jesse Jenkins, Sr. and Lela Hall Jenkins and resided in Memphis for 48 years moving to Mountain Home, Arkansas in 2009. He was retired from Commercial Credit/McCullagh Leasing, Inc. and was a long time member of Woodland Presbyterian Church. Jim served in the U. S. Army during World War II as a member of the 44th Quartermaster Railhead Division of the 147th Infantry seeing action in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. After the war, he continued his education at Arkansas State University receiving a BS degree in Business. He was a charter member of the Delta Theta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at ASU. Mr. Jenkins was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason who served the Al Chymia Shrine as a volunteer on the Hospital Staff driving burn patients to Galveston and St. Louis. He enjoyed fishing, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, and watching the lake and wildlife from his porch, but his greatest joy was his family. Jim is survived by his six children: Jim Jenkins, III (Barbara) of Germantown, TN; Judy Jenkins Needham (Gregg) of Dardenne Prairie, MO; Robert Jenkins (Karen) of Bartlett, TN; Leigh Jenkins Zacarias (Ed) of Mountain Home, AR; Kay Jenkins Mothershead (Keith) of Sardis, MS; and Tricia Jenkins Russell (Bryan) of Jonesboro, AR, 15 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his wife, Betty Castleman Jenkins and his sister, Nadine Jenkins Jones, preceded Jim in death. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery at 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Visitation begins at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mr. Jenkins’ grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be the PiKA brothers of Delta Theta Chapter.
