Jerry C. Salemi's Obituary
Jerry C. Salemi, 91, of Memphis, passed away on September 26, 2011. Mr. Salemi, a major in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII, flew 23 B-17 missions, under the command of General Curtis Lemay. He won the Distinguished Flying Cross twice and was a group bombardier stationed in Bury St. Edmonds, England. He was the owner of Alfred’s Men’s Clothing Store before closing his business in 1984. He was also a Realtor with MMIC here in Memphis. Mr. Salemi was also a member of the Memphis Rotary Club, Past President of the Memphis Area Retail Merchants, and Past Chairman of the Memphis Epilepsy Foundation. He is survived by his two sons, Charles Salemi of Memphis and Philip and wife Barbara Salemi of San Antonio, one daughter Catherine Salemi of Pittsburgh, PA, one sister, Mary Gervell, four grandchildren Christopher Wicher, Caden, Brooklin and Kennedy Salemi and one great grandchild Vera Madison Wicher. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jerrie Porter, four sisters, Florence Salemi, Catherine Peri, and Francis Jones, and Lee Foropoulos, and a brother Vince Salemi. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 29, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday September 30, also at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christian Brothers High School, Methodist Hospice Residence Home or the Veteran’s Organization of the donor’s choice.
