Jerry D. Nowlin's Obituary
Jerry D. Nowlin, 88 of Memphis, TN, born March 23, 1935 in Russellville, Arkansas, passed away June 30, 2023 at Kirby Pines Lifecare Community. Jerry attended Freed Hardeman College for 2 years, where he met his wife, Bonnie. Jerry was a member of Highland Church of Christ for 68 years. He served as a Deacon for several years and then as an Elder for 37 years. He loved his church family and all the wonderful work they did.
Jerry was an active member of the Memphis Civitan Club, serving as president for several years. Jerry was a member of the Harding Academy of Memphis Booster Club where his children attended school and served as president for 2 years. Jerry’s interests consisted of working with the missionaries of Highland Church of Christ, attending church activities and was involved for many years with the young people until a full-time youth director was appointed. He also worked with the Memphis State campus student center and loved traveling to Gatlinburg, Florida and Heber Springs, Arkansas with his lovely bride, Bonnie, his family and friends. Jerry was passionate about his work as a State Farm agent for 37 years. He would have loved to have never retired, which he did at almost 84 years old, in January of 2019.
Jerry is survived by the love of his life, “His Bride” Bonnie Wilson Nowlin, his son Don Nowlin (Harold Ann) of Mayfield, KY, his daughter Rene’ Nowlin Swain of Murfreesboro, TN. Beloved grandchildren: Luke Nowlin (Ashley) their 3 children, Drew Nowlin (Minnie) their 2 children, Ben Nowlin (Brittany) and their daughter, and Shea Whitson and Branic Swain. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents William and Bess Nowlin, his brother William (Bill) Nowlin and his sister Martha Kent.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Highland Church of Christ, 400 N. Houston Levee Rd. Cordova, TN 38018 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service at the church with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Highland Church of Christ, Jerry Nowlin Memorial Missionary Fund.
