Jerry J. Johnson's Obituary
Jerry Joel Johnson of Germantown, TN went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2012. He was born on June 11, 1935. Mr. Johnson is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Carolyn Cook Johnson, his son Bayne Williams, and his mother and father in law, Ruth and Frank Cook, all of Germantown. He also leaves brothers Darrell Johnson (Betty), Dudley Johnson (Glenda), and Jack Johnson (Deanna), all of the Germantown area, and a sister Ramelle Johnson Sewell (Ray, deceased) of Wills Point, Texas. In addition, he leaves 30 nieces and nephews who dearly loved Uncle Jerry. He was preceded in death by his parents Sydney and Daisy Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a prominent residential and commercial real estate developer. He was a partner with brothers Dudley and Jack on numerous developments in the Germantown and Collierville area, including Beaver Creek, Steeplegate, and several self storage facilities. Also, he was the owner of Dogwood Home Builders, Inc. and he built well over one hundred homes in this area. Mr. Johnson was known for his honesty, quality, character, and friendly smile. He always had a willingness to lend a helping hand or provide seasoned advice to younger builders. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 by the Home Builders Association of Memphis. He was an active Christian who was a member of Central Church for over 30 years. Visitation will be Monday, May 21 at 11:30 A. M. Services and interment will follow at 1:00 P.M at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Hospital.
