Jerry H. Holmes' Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry H. Holmes, 85, of Memphis,
Tennessee on Sunday, October 6th, 2024. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Holmes
of Memphis, Tennessee.
Mr. Holmes was born in Martin, Tennessee in 1939. He attended Bowling Green Business
College in Bowling Green, Kentucky where he earned a B.A.A. in Accounting. His business
career included over 35 years of service in Accounting for Gordon’s Transports, Inc., Hyster
International, and the Internal Revenue Service. He was a savvy investor in the stock market,
and he enjoyed providing his tax expertise to friends and family.
Mr. Holmes served in the Air National Guard Reserve in Memphis, Tennessee for 8 years. In
1962, he met the love of his life, Betty Sisco. Together, they started their family to include three
sons - David, Robert, and Justin - and they were married for 57 years. His family was his real
pride, joy, and success. He inspired people with his life stories, wisdom, and unique sense of
humor. He was loved very much by his family, and he will be dearly missed.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his spouse, Betty Sisco Holmes, who passed away in
January, 2021. He is survived by his children - David Holmes of Nashville, Tennessee; Robert
Holmes (Susan Brown) of Senatobia, Mississippi; and Justin Holmes of Batesville, Mississippi; his sister, Ms. Connie Holmes Sanders of Memphis, Tennessee; nephew G. Jeffrey Sanders of Memphis, Tennessee; and two grandchildren - Sarah Holmes O’Neal (Levi) of Como, Mississippi; and Suzy Holmes Burgess (Riley) of Batesville, Mississippi.
The family requests in lieu of flowers to please make a memorial donation to St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital.
The family invites friends to gather for visitation from 10:00am until 11:00am on Wednesday October 9, 2024 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00am at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN 38119
