Jerald Read's Obituary
Jerry Read, 80, was born on September 8, 1935 in Bay Springs, Ms and died peacefully on August 18, 2016 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Steve Farrell after a short battle with cancer. He leaves behind the love of his life of 58 years, Priscilla E. Read. He also leaves his son and daughter-in–law, Doug and Molly Read, four grandchildren, and one great granddaughter as well as one brother (Ike Williams) and two sisters (Evelyn Adams and Barbara Ann Collier). He graduated from Central High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He attended one year at Memphis State University on a track scholarship. He was a member of The Church of Holy Communion where he served on the vestry and coached various team sports for both boys and girls. After careers with Nabisco, Hertz Equipment Rental, and Contractors Equipment Rental, he retired, played golf with his buddies, traveled with his wife in his RV and then owned a landscaping business. As an avid supporter of Memphis State football, he was a long time member of the Highland Hundred. Visitation and Funeral will be Monday, August 22 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery on Poplar Avenue starting at noon and service to follow at 1:00 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any animal rescue group or Mid-South Spay and Neuter.
