Jennie Lee Dempsey's Obituary
Jennie Lee Dempsey, 95, passed away on March 25, 2015, at the NHC Nursing Home in Somerville, TN. Her parents, William Leonard Stevens, Sr. and Mittie Ann Wallace, preceded her in death as well as all of her siblings. Her husband of many years also preceded her in death in January 1992. They had no children of their own but helped raise two of her nephews, Clyde Allen Rogers and George Odie “Jodie” Stevens. Lee was affectionately known as “Aunt Gee” to all of her family. She was a beautician and Solon Manager for many years at Lowenstein and Bry’s department stores in Memphis where she retired in 1982. She was a kind and gentle soul who knew she was going to “heaven to be with her mama and siblings.” She was cared for by her nieces and nephew, Margaret and Jerry Brownlee for eight and a half years before going into the nursing home in February 2015. Other caregivers were Lora Cook, niece, and Lynn Holmes, family friend. She always wanted her hair and finger nails to be done and they were right up until her death. One of the greatest joys of her life was spending time with her dog, Jake. She was a member of Piperton United Methodist Church and leaves many friends, nieces, nephews and many great- nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 1, from 1:30-2:30 pm immediately followed by a funeral service at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be at Forest Hill South Cemetery on Holmes Road in Memphis.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
