Jeff H. Farmer's Obituary
Jeff Hines Farmer, Sr. Remembering the twinkle in his eye with his beloved wife by his side, this devoted husband of 65 years, loving father and proud World War II Veteran passed peacefully on October 6, 2013. Born in Shaw, MS in 1922 to Mr. Rufus Samuel Farmer and Mrs. Willie LaVella Watkins Farmer, he was the last remaining sibling of 8 children. He graduated from Memphis State in 1949, where he met his wife, Betty Bethune Farmer. He was an avid Tiger Fan and a fixture at Tiger games for many years. He and his wife travelled great distances to support his alma mater. He began a successful career on the Cotton Exchange in downtown Memphis in 1948. He was known for his honesty and hard work ethic and at the time, he was reputed to be a most accomplished jitterbug dancer during lunch breaks from the Exchange. He volunteered his service for World War II and served as Staff Sergeant European Theater. After his military service, he worked for Sears Roebuck in the Home Remodeling Division and received several sales awards for his work throughout the nation. He then started his own home construction company, Jeff H. Farmer & Sons, Inc., and became renowned for custom homes and home renovations throughout the city. His company later included multi-family developments and HUD housing. His greatest pride was found in his parental love and protection of his family members: His devoted wife: Betty Bethune Farmer; Children: Jeff Farmer Jr.; Greg Farmer (deceased); Ken Farmer Sr.; and Debbie Farmer Cotton. Grandchildren: Kim Farmer Finch; Jeff Farmer III; Kristen Farmer; Ken Farmer Jr.; Matt Farmer; Justin Keen; Andy Keen; Clare Cotton Freeman; Christopher Cotton; and seven great-grandchildren. The family of Jeff H. Farmer will receive visitors on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. His life will be celebrated following visitation at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. The family requests memorials be sent to Kirby Woods Baptist Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice in memory of Jeff Hines Farmer, Sr.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.Location: Highland Arrow Color: Red
