Jeanette (Jan) Baker Morat's Obituary
Jeanette (Jan) Baker Morat, 85, passed on to our Lord on October 9, 2014, at Kirby Pines Manor in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a beloved wife and mother. Jeanette was born in Trenton, Tennessee but as a child moved to Memphis. She graduated from Messick High School and attended Memphis State University where she was very active in her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. As an alumni, she was presented with several national awards for her contribution to many charitable events. One in particular was her involvement with the Memphis Oral School For the Deaf. She provided, for 25 years, Christmas parties for the children. Jeanette was a member of the Crestwood Women’s Club and was a deacon and soloist in the choir at Kingsway Christian Church. She was also a youth counselor there for 12 years. She was also the secretary-treasurer for her husband’s agency; Morat Insurance, for over 20 years. Jeanette was a Memphis Jaycee and attend national conventions with her husband. She was appointed by Mayors’ Loeb and Sisson to chair the Memphis City Beautiful “Business Christmas Decorating Contest” for many years. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William R. Morat, Sr.; her three children, William R Morat, Jr. (Ann), Michael T. Morat (Janet) and Jan Morat Henderson; 7 grandchildren, William Matthew Morat, Laura K. Hundley (Chris), Jason Morat, Christopher C. Morat, E. Brad Henderson, Neely Janette Henderson and Mary Layne Hopkins (Matt); 4 great-grandchildren, Madison Morat, Evan Hundley, Alice Layne Hopkins and Parker Morat. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon all at Memorial Park Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
