Jean L. Vanek's Obituary
Esther Jean Lindsay Avery Vanek, 91, peacefully passed away at her home on July 15, 2014. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Jean was born in Lucknow, India, to her missionary parents, Alexander and Wilhelmina Lindsay. She was predeceased by her parents, infant son, Thomas Henry Avery, her husband, George Vanek, step-son, Steven Vanek, her brother, Gordon Lindsay, her sisters, Margaret Chorlian, and Alice Sutton. She is survived by her children, Susan (Mike) Finnern, Jim (Karen) Avery, Patty ( Eli ) Morris, Joni (Thomas) Lipsey, and stepson, Noel (Linda) Vanek, 13 Gammy’s lambies (grandchildren) and 12 great grandchildren. Jean served as a nurse in the Army Nurse Corp in WWII in Manilla, She was a founding member of Christ United Methodist Church in the 1950’s and was also a founding member of Hope Presbyterian Church in the 1980’s. The family wishes to thank her loyal caregivers, Betty Berry, Stephanie Ware, and Terry Dean for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to St. Jude, or the missions’ fund at Christ United Methodist Church or Hope Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, July 18, and the service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
