Jean Rutledge's Obituary
Jean M Rutledge, 84, of Memphis, passed away on January 26, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Memphis Attorney J.P. Rutledge Jr. She and J.P. met at a Methodist church social and from there began a life together that lasted for 52 years. She assisted J.P. for more than 30 years in his law practice. Jean was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and a volunteer for many organizations including the Women’s Exchange, the Veterans Administration Hospital, and the Salvation Army. She was also a charter member of the “Bathhouse Beauties,” a small social women’s group. Jean is survived by her children, Jay Rutledge, Roger Rutledge, and Julie Berg, one brother, Billy Karnes, her grandchildren, Amelia Rutledge, Sarah Rutledge, Andrew Berg, William Berg, Thomas Berg, Catherine Smith, and Nathaniel Rutledge, and two great-grandchildren, Zian and Ashleigh. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, January 28, with funeral services on Saturday, January 29, at 11:30 a.m., all at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
