Jean Isbell's Obituary
Jean Bowe Isbell went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2014. She had just celebrated her 87th birthday. Jean was born in Memphis and grew up in Capleville, TN. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts and was very active in the Phi Mu sorority. She would meet her husband of 53 years while at UT, Roy Paul Isbell. They would later marry and call Memphis home. Jean worked at the national headquarters of Pi Kappa Alpha and loved to entertain. A supporter of Dixon Gallery and Gardens as well as The Fontaine House, she enjoyed the arts. She was the church organist for Capleville United Methodist Church for over 20 years and loved church hymns. A very active gardener, she could make anything grow and loved to share cuttings with friends and family. Traveling the world was another passion of Jean and her husband. One of her favorite destinations was the United Kingdom. Never one to slow down she remained active with her family, church and her dogs. She attended Covenant United Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Paul Isbell. She is survived by son Paul Wyatt Isbell of Germantown and daughter Jeannie Isbell Goin of Memphis; four grandchildren: Hannah Isbell, Watson Isbell, Alix Goin Kirk and Anderson Goin; and one great grandchild Henry Paul Kirk and many relatives. The service will be at 11:00 am at Covenant United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 1st with visitation beginning one hour earlier.
