Jean Clay Cox Garibaldi's Obituary
Jean Clay Cox Garibaldi was born March 12, 1932, and was a lifelong resident of Memphis Tennessee.
Jean passed peacefully at Methodist hospice residence on Saturday, February 4, at the age of 90.
Jean is survived by her children, Jack Garibaldi, Patti Wilson, Gwen Basinger (Bill), and Lynn Kirkland; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one on the way. She is predeceased by her parents, Fannie May and Jesse (Jack) H. Cox and her husband of 70 years, Thomas M. Garibaldi.
Jean attended Immaculate Conception grade school and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1949. Upon completion of high school, she went to Memphis State College, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, Newman Club, Home Economic Club and the Modern Dance Club. Jean married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Garibaldi on June 28, 1952. They resided on the Shaw AFB, South Carolina, while Tommy served in the Air National Guard during the Korean War.
Jean was a devout, lifelong Catholic. She taught fourth grade at Holy Rosary School for over 10 years until the twins were born. When the twins were grown, she got her real estate license and worked for Coldwell Banker group. Jean was an Order of Preachers Associate for the Dominican Sisters of Peace and supporter of the Monastery of St. Clare. She loved family beach trips to Destin and going to Memphis football games followed by dinner at Pete n Sam’s with friends and family.
The visitation is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. with Mass to follow at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Church of the Holy Spirit.
