Jasper Hampton Davis, III's Obituary
Sergeant First Class Jasper H. Davis III passed after an 18-month battle with Prostate Cancer at his home in Memphis, TN on February 2nd, 2019 at the young age of 51. Jasper is survived by the love of his life, Luann Ley Davis, whom he married on December 14, 2014. Jasper is also survived by his father Jasper Davis, Jr. (wife Shirley Davis) of Dublin, VA, son Jasper Hampton Davis IV of Ft. Hood, TX, son Cody Ryan Davis of Jacksonville, FL, step-daughter Jessica Lindenmayer (husband Brad Lindenmayer) of Perkins, OK, brother Darnell David Davis (wife Lori K. Davis), nephew and niece Connor and Gracie Davis of Campbellsville, KY, step-brother, Doug Baker and niece and nephew Haley and Brandon Baker of Dublin, VA. He is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy E. Holiday Davis, of Pearisburg, VA, and step-sister Deborah Lynn Baker of Dublin, VA. Jasper was born on July 5, 1967 in Pulaski, VA to Nancy Holiday Davis and Jasper Davis, Jr. He graduated from Pulaski County High School in 1985, and enlisted in the U.S. Army the following August, 1985. Jasper served in the U.S. Army for 26 years when he retired in August, 2011. Jasper’s military education included Air Assault Course, Airborne Operations Course, Airborne Course, Anti-Armor Course, Army Recruiter Course, Basic NCO Course, German Enhancement Course, Jumpmaster Course, Pathfinder Course, Primary Leadership and Development Course, Ranger Training Course, Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course, Special Forces Intelligence Course, Survival/Evasion/Resistance/Escape High Risk Training Course, TOW Leaders Course, and Unit Armor Course. Jasper served in imminent danger areas that include Afghanistan, Iraq, and Bosnia. His deployments included Panama (2x), Honduras, Canada, Egypt, Bosnia (2x), Greece, Iraq (x2), Chad, Niger, Afghanistan, and back stateside for just over 3 years until retirement. Jasper’s military awards include Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Bronze Star Medal, Amy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medals (2), NATO Medal, Army Good Conduct Medals (5), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO, Professional Development Ribbons (2), Combat Infantry Badge (2), Expert Infantryman Badge, U.S. Army Basic Recruiter Badge-Silver, Parachute Combat Badge with BSS (Combat Jump) Parachutist Badge, Basic Marksmanship Qualification Badge, Driver/Mechanic Badge, and USA Recruiter Badge. After military retirement, Jasper married Luann and, together, they bought and sold antiques while Jasper worked at the Post Office in Salisbury, NC and Luann worked toward her degree. While in NC, Jasper completed auctioneering school, as he loved auctions, and won an award in auctioneering school. After Luann graduated in 2016, they moved to Memphis, TN where Jasper completed his degree from Colorado Technical College with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Homeland Security and Emergency Services Management in 2018. Jasper loved hunting, fishing, buying/selling antiques and collectables, and his favorite pastime was sitting in his backyard around a campfire drinking beer, laughing, talking and listening to music. Jasper was a strong warrior, consummate gentleman, loving husband, considerate son and brother, and loved his children and family. The memorial for SFC Jasper H. Davis III will be held at 4:00PM February 24th, 2019 at VFW Post 41 in Loveland, CO (305 Cleveland Ave., Loveland, CO, 80537). Chaplain Vince Garcia will officiate the ceremony with full military honors. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jasper’s life.
