Janice Schlotfeldt's Obituary
Janice Eileen (Johnson) Schlotfeldt, daughter of Aubrey H. And Maude (Jones) Johnson, was born September 6,1931 in Murray, Iowa. She passed from this life Monday, June 2,2025 at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee after a brave battle with cancer.
Janice was raised on a farm in Murray, Iowa graduating from Murray High School in 1949. She learned the value of work and self reliance early on taking after-school and summer jobs which led her to her future careers. One of Jan's jobs with a local insurance company and auto dealership exposed her to the record-keeping and secretarial skills which later gave opportunities with a magazine publisher in Texas, a later with the Federal Government at the Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, then an Accounting firm in Des Mines, a major trucking industry insurance firm, Natural Gas Company Headquarters in Omaha, an architecture firm and an Omaha Real Estate company where she was the first female sales agent. That led to her becoming the Mortgage Loan Center Manager of a Savings and Loan company where she worked until retirement in 1986. She was a detailed oriented person. Prior to moving to Tennessee in 2012, she managed the financial records of five Homeowners Associations in Rio Verde and Tonto Verde, Arizona.
Janice met her beloved husband, Fay E. Schlotfeldt in Des Moines, Iowa in 1957 and were married July 12,1959 at First Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Following retirement, the couple moved to Rio Verde, Arizona where they resided for twenty-five years prior to moving to Kirby Pines Estates in Memphis, Tennessee.
Janice was an avid golfer with a record of five holes-in-one. Her other hobbies were gardening, and she was an accomplished artist in oils, painting cat-rocks, wildlife paintings, and farm scenes. She and Fay enjoyed camping and fishing with friends in Arizona over the years. Janice was a very active civically in Omaha in the Women's Chamber of Commerce, the Henry Doorly Zoo, and The Builders Credit Bureau.
Mrs. Schlotfeldt was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, a sister Jean Oliver, brother Paul Johnson, and brother-in-law Max Oliver. She is survived by her sister-in-law Joan Johnson of Murray, Iowa; niece Janet (Mike) Adair of Memphis, TN; nephews, Joel (Lila) Johnson of Norwalk, Iowa, Mark (Kathleen) Johnson of Murray, Iowa; Jay Johnson of Murray, Iowa; and grand-nieces Rachel (Guglielmo) Giordano, great-grand-nephew Noah of Naples, Italy and Stephanie Adair of Little Rock, Arkansas; grand-nephew Brandon Johnson and grand-niece, Ashleigh Motzko, both of Des Moines, Iowa, and many close friends.
Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Janice will be held on July 7, 2025 at 2:00pm at the Kirby Pines Estates Chapel.
