Janice Gayle Marks' Obituary
Janice “Jan” Kimsey Marks, 79, passed away September 1, 2013, after a long struggle with cancer. Mrs. Marks was born November 15, 1933 in Oklahoma City, OK to C.A. “Kim” and Bernice Wize Kimsey. She attended Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) at Stillwater, OK, where she met, then married Ferrell C. Marks in 1953. Upon graduation, Ferrell joined the Army in 1954, and was ordered to Germany. Jan accompanied him. Their son Craig was born there in 1955. Upon returning to the United States, Ferrell’s new job took them to Memphis, which became their permanent home. A second son, Gary was born in 1958. Jan enrolled at Memphis State (University of Memphis) to obtain a bachelors degree, then a Master’s degree in Education. She began teaching when the boys were older and started “Jan’s Estate Sales” because of her deep interest in antiques. Mrs. Marks is survived by her husband of 60 years Ferrell; two sons, Craig Wesley and his wife Mary Ann and Gary Ferrell and his wife Leigh Ann; grandchildren; Brett, Elyse, Mitchell, Wyatt, and Mattie; a brother, Gary Kimsey and his wife Ruth of San Diego, CA. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, September 5, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Cancer Clinic or the Methodist Hospice Residence.
