Janice Theresa Guerra's Obituary
Janice Theresa Guerra, known professionally as Janie Paris, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at the age of 86 in Memphis. You would never guess her age - and she would never admit it.
Born in New York City, Janie began her working life as a hat model, sparking a lifelong love of hats that became one of her trademarks. Early in her career, she made a defining choice: turning down an opportunity to model furs in Paris in order to become an accomplished actor in local theater, television, and film, and she proudly traveled with the USO on a Pacific tour, sharing her talent with service members abroad.
Her stage work earned her numerous awards and the admiration of audiences and peers alike. In Memphis theater, her first local role was Maggie the Cat in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, a performance that marked the beginning of her vibrant presence in the city's performing arts community. On television, she appeared in commercials and in programs including The Guiding Light, Searching for Tomorrow, and Unsolved Mysteries. Her film credits included a role in The Firm.
Beyond the spotlight, Janie was widely known for her deep love of animals, especially cats. She had a gift for rescuing strays and finding them loving homes - though many happily ended up living with her. If you were looking for a cat, Janie always had one ready to introduce.
A vibrant personality both on and off the stage, Janie brought warmth, humor, and character into every room she entered. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
