Janet McIntyre's Obituary
Janet Fountain McIntyre, 84, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2015, following a long illness. She was the widow of Gordon M. McIntyre Jr., to whom she was married for fifty years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was survived by her two children, Janet McIntyre Cox, and Gordon M. McIntyre III (Candy); as well as five grandchildren, Thomas McIntyre (Jennifer), William McIntyre, Janet Cox Harritt (Bill), Ann W. Cox, Sam J. Cox IV; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Reverend W. Maynard Fountain Jr. She attended Rhodes College and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She worked as a Real Estate Agent, and was a member of Germantown Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women’s Bible Study, The Women of the Church, and her Sunday School Class. She was a longtime volunteer with the King’s Daughters and Sons as well as belonging to a Garden Club and dinner groups. She was known for her talents as a chef and hostess but best known for her cheerful attitude and ability to see the best in everyone and everything. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. and a memorial service will follow at 3 p.m., Thursday, February 5 at Germantown Presbyterian Church under the direction of Memphis Park Funeral Home. The interment will be private at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Germantown Presbyterian Church or Woodland Presbyterian School. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
