Janet Majilton's Obituary
Janet Elaine Majilton (75)- Passed away peacefully December 25th at Methodist Germantown Hospital after losing her battle with esophageal cancer.
Born June 1st 1948 in Memphis,TN to Hugh West and Cleo Fuller. Younger Sister to Vivian. Graduated White Station Highschool in 1965 where she was universally regarded as the "Sweetest, kindest person around". Janet would go on to attend UT-Knoxville where she earned her B.S. in Library Science and devoloped her life long love of the Volunteers. She would follow up by earning her M.S. in Library Science at the Univeristy Of Wisconsin. She became the Head of both the Cheerokee & Raleigh Library Branches before taking the position of Collection Development Officer(CDO) at the Main Library in Memphis, TN. Before and during her time as CDO, Janet was a member of multiple National Library Commitee's where she aquired the knowledge she would use to develop & implement the system to aquire and distribute ALL physical content for ALL Libraries in the entire city of Memphis, a system that is still used to this day, touching countless minds & lives in the process. A long time member of Bellevue Babtist Church, Janet would also volunteer her time for close to two decades as a Coordinator for the Children's Programs every Wednesday night.
Janet would marry 3 times in her life. The second marriage would bring her the joy's of her life in her Daughter Dana Michelle Van Eps & her son David Christopher Majilton, and by extension her two grandchildren Aiden Thomas & Isabella Rose Van Eps. Janet's third marriage Febuary 28th, 1987 to Mark Majilton brought her not only the "Love Of Her Life" but a true soul mate. Ever inseperable Janet & Mark would spend the next 36yrs, 9months, and 27 Days creating a true and unbreakable bond.
Even though a back injury would keep her from her absolute love of ballroom dancing, in retirement Janet would continue to pursue every other one of her life's greatest passions. Whether it was singing, taking care of her miriad of both inside and outside cat's, gardening with her husband Mark and her "furry little helpers", reading a good book, working on her latest needlepoint project, or traveling the world with her husband and her closest friend Merle Jacob, Janet was never found without her trademark smile and bubbly personality.
She is survived by her husband Mark Majilton, Daughter Dana Michelle Van Eps, Son David Christopher Majilton, and her two grandchildren Aiden Thomas and Isabella Rose Van Eps.
Funeral Services for Janet will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2023 at 11:00am in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation an hour prior to the service starting at 10:00am. Burial will follow at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
