Jane Sharpe's Obituary
Elmira Jane Weakley Sharpe, age 91, gracefully and peacefully went to be with Jesus on Easter, April 16, 2017. She was the wife of Paul C. Sharpe, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.A born Memphian, Jane was the only daughter of Mollie Huffman Weakley Gates, and John Edgar Weakley. She attended Mississippi University for Women, the “W”, her freshman and sophomore years of college, then transferred and graduated from the University of Memphis. Jane was a charter member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority when it was founded on the Memphis State campus in 1947. She was also a member of the Brooks Museum League and Christ United Methodist Church.Jane retired in 2000 after 16 years as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Finance at Christian Brothers University, where she always kept one pink carnation on her desk. She loved all trees, flowers and gardens and was particularly known for her African Violets. Jane was an avid tennis player from her teenage years, and continued to play well into her seventies.She is preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Adrienne Jones, and her husband, Paul.Known affectionately as “Nene”, Mrs. Sharpe is survived by her daughters, Connie Jones of Cordova, and Brooxie Keary (Jon) of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Mollie Jones Boyle (Chris) of Dallas, Texas, Calley Crews Gerber (Andrew) of Nashville, and Abbey Carey (Trey) of Murfreesboro; and her great-grandchildren, Eamon and Luke Boyle, and Lilly Broox and William Carey.A chapel service only will be held at the Wilson Chapel of Christ United Methodist Church located at 4488 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
